The way you look shouldn’t matter in the business world, but, obviously your looks will matter to some.

The way you look from an attractiveness perspective usually does not have a big effect on your business or career, but the way you present yourself absolutely has an effect. And, depending on your industry, the visual presentation of yourself can vary greatly.

Most businesses or industries have a general appearance or dress code. If you’re a general contractor who renovates houses to flip them, you would likely wear clothes that you didn’t care about getting dirty or helped you in your trade. But if you’re an attorney, you would probably wear more business casual attire or suits to work.

And although society has become more relaxed on tattoos, piercings and unnatural hair colors, it can become a turn off for some customers and colleagues so you’ll have to make a judgement call on those types of features based on your business environment.

But for most features like body type, face structure, eye color or anything that you can’t really change, it shouldn’t be an issue as long as you’re not dealing with total assholes.

And if it is an issue for some, don’t stress over it. The problem is more likely them than you.
